You may be familiar with the well known Jalapeno pepper, but let us introduce the Lemon Spice Jalapeno! This hybrid was originally created by a breeding project that began in 1995 at New Mexico State University at the Chile Pepper Institute. The original crossing was done with the Permagreen Bell pepper and the Early Jalapeno.
The Lemon Spice Jalapeno pepper is about the same size as the traditional Early Jalapeno pepper. What sets it apart from its relatives is its shockingly vibrant yellow color and fruity flavor. The Lemon Spice pepper plants can tolerate hot, dry climates and grow to be about one to two feet tall. These plants are very productive and are also great for mixed-bed or container planting.
When it comes to heat and flavor, this variety checks the boxes. The Lemon Spice Jalapeno Scoville Heat Units range from 2,500 to 8,000. This is an ideal heat level if you want a bit of spice but not too much to handle. Give it a try on any of your favorite dishes!
