OTHER: Native only to the US, Blue Spruce has been widely introduced around the globe, hugely popular for its ornamental beauty & adaptability. Like many, I myself love the gorgeous silvery blue of the foliage. Blue Spruce trees really catch the eye & will stand out in the landscape. Being extremely cold hardy & able to live in the drastically cold temperatures of zone 1 as well as the warmth of zone 8’s climate, they can thrive in a large variety of areas. They are popular as specimen trees in homes, parks, & commercial sites, & being an evergreen conifer with dense branches, they also make an excellent windbreak. They are a superb selection for adding color & texture to any site you choose for them, & their unique coloration provides a nice contrasting backdrop for other surrounding standard green plants that may otherwise blend in to a monochrome landscape. Additionally, Blue Spruce trees can help prevent soil erosion. In their natural habitat, these trees can grow to reach heights of 100’ or more, but in cultivation typically don’t grow larger than 50’ tall by 15’ wide. They have gorgeous red pollen cones, & their mature brown pinecones measure 4”long & are popularly used in crafts & as décor. This spruce also has many traditional medicinal uses. The Blue Spruce is the state tree of Colorado! Our seeds were harvested in Colorado, so you will be growing true Colorado Blue Spruce trees! The Blue Spruce, a timeless classic beloved for their stunningly beautiful signature silvery-blue color, remains one of the most popular types of Christmas trees. Their dense branching provides a full appearance & their sturdy branches hold the weight of ornaments well. Spruce trees retain their needles for around 4 weeks after being cut if they are kept well hydrated. The fragrance is delightful, with a scent of cool pine & crisp woods that is clean & Christmasy. Capturing the essence of a stroll through a pine forest, Blue Spruce manages to be both refreshing & invigorating as well as warm, inviting, & relaxing with woody earthy undertones. And, guess what the living Christmas Tree on the White House’s south lawn is? Yep, you got it – it’s a Blue Spruce! * FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ADDITIONAL SEEDS!PAY ONE FLAT SHIPPING FEE PER ORDER NO MATTER HOW MANY PACKS OF SEEDS YOU SELECT! I’ve read many accounts of people growing them in ponds that completely froze over and came back or plants covered in 6” of snow that weren’t even effected. In extremely cold conditions, the plant may die down or some of the fronds will typically turn brown. If this happens, you can just remove the brown fronds by cutting them off and the plant should regrow in the spring. It can of course be grown in pots and brought indoors over the winter months. This tolerant plant will grow in a variety of soils and seems to tolerate dryness or extreme moisture (under water) very well. Once established, they are very easy to divide or new plants can be grown from cuttings. To do this, simply cut off a small frond from the palm and put it in water. In an amazing 7-10 days, you should begin to see roots. Once the plant has taken root, just plant it in soil. This agreeable beauty will add a great tropical flair to your landscape!   We also have Cyperus alternifolius (Umbrella Plant Cyperus) seeds, & other palms too! * FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ADDITIONAL SEEDS!PAY ONE FLAT SHIPPING FEE PER ORDER NO MATTER HOW MANY PACKS OF SEEDS YOU SELECT! OTHER: The Fraser Fir is a native coniferous evergreen that hails from the Appalachian Mountains of the Southeastern United States. A close relative of the Balsam Fir, the two are quite similar. Fraser Firs have dense branching when they are of a young age, spreading as they age. They begin to produce their lovely 1 ½ - 2 ½” long by 1 – 1 ½” wide purple to brown cones once they reach a height of 7 – 10’ tall. Fraser Firs are popular for home plantings, public spaces, & commercial spaces, commonly used both as specimen trees or rowed to form a windbreak. Sadly, these trees that play an important role in providing food & shelter for several types of rare animals are listed as an endangered species in the wild. (Our seeds are responsibly harvested.) The Fraser Fir is one of the 4 most popular types of Christmas Trees for good reason! The trees naturally grow in a lovely pyramid shape so don’t require much pruning, & their dense branches full of soft dark blue-green needles with silvery undersides are very attractive. Importantly, they are able to retain their needles for a long time (typically 6 weeks or so) after being cut. Their slim form makes them a good fit for smaller spaces. They feature strong limbs with an upward curvature that hold ornaments well & won’t sag under the weight of allll those ornaments you can’t wait to lovingly smother it with. A close relative of the Balsam Fir, the Fraser Fir is quite fragrant, & its scent really is best described as “Christmas” – like Balsam - a bit like pine with woody, earthy tones, & a hint of citrus. Fraser Firs have been used as the White House Christmas tree more than any other species, & is the tree chosen for the banquet hall at Biltmore. I myself cannot hear ‘Fraser Fir’ without thinking of Harold & Kumar :) * FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ADDITIONAL SEEDS!PAY ONE FLAT SHIPPING FEE PER ORDER NO MATTER HOW MANY PACKS OF SEEDS YOU SELECT!
