Volunteer Half Runner Bean is a long-trusted Appalachian favorite, known for its vigorous growth, exceptional flavor, and dependable yields. This traditional variety produces an abundance of tender, stringless pods that reach 4–5 inches long—perfect for fresh eating, canning, or freezing.
Vines grow 3 to 5 feet and combine the best qualities of both bush and pole beans: tidy growth with the benefit of a longer, more extended harvest season. Plants perform best with light support but do not require full trellising, making them easy to manage in home gardens.
Highly productive and incredibly reliable, Volunteer Half Runner remains a beloved staple for gardeners seeking old-fashioned flavor, versatility, and steady yields throughout the season.
