5 PHYSIC NUT Barbados Purging JATROPHA Curcas Shrub Tree Bio-Diesel Seeds

If you wish to make your own insecticide/fungicide with this plant, be careful of the nuts. All parts of plant are poisonous if ingested, so be very cautious about human (or animal) consumption. First, dry the nuts completely. Second, crush the nuts to a fine powder. Third, soak nut powder in petroleum ether until the ether is evaporated. The residue is your insecticide. Use it sparingly, about 1 Tbsp/Gal. As the Physic Nut Tree becomes more popular as a source for bio-diesel production, the market will likely expand for this seed. It grows very easily from seed and sets seed every time it blooms. Butterflies just love it and joyfully pollinate it. These tree do grow quickly. Mine was around 2 feet tall when I planted it and in its second year it has grown to about 15 ft.

Camellia Sinensis, commonly known as the Tea Plant, is the plant the drinking beverage tea is made from. Tea is made from the leaves of this shrub. Both black & green tea are made from this same plant – the difference is that black tea is fermented while green tea is not.
Thought to be originally native to China, the Tea Plant is cultivated commercially around the world today in tropical & sub-tropical locations. Tea Plants have been cultivated for at least 3,000 years, & tea is still one of the most consumed beverages worldwide today.
Tea leaves contain essential oils, antioxidants, vitamins & minerals, amino acids, enzymes, & caffeine. They have many traditional medicinal uses, as well as some more modern ones. Tea oil (different from tea tree oil) is also obtained by pressing the leaves is used for seasoning & cooking.
Tea Plants are considered to be a shrub to a small tree. They take to pruning well, & can be cut to desired shape & size. The plants are often trimmed to 6’ or less to make harvesting easier, but they can grow to be much taller. The evergreen leaves measure 2 – 6” long & are a bright shiny green. It is the younger light green leaves that are typically harvested for making drinking tea, & can be picked every week or two. This is wonderful, because you will always have a good fresh supply on hand, & these impressive plants can produce for over 100 years! The leaves are hand-picked, even in commercial operations, as not all of the leaves are harvested at once. While Tea Plants are only hardy to Zone 7, they can be grown in containers in cooler climates & brought indoors over the winter.
Tea Plants are also grown as an ornamental. They do have lovely foliage, & are worth growing for their flowers alone! The large showy blossoms measure 1 ½” across, & bloom in clusters of 2 - 4 creating a large display of beauty. The flowers are fragrant, & will attract bees & butterflies.

NAME: Pistachio Tree
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Pistacia Vera
COLOR: Red Flowers / Yellow - Red Pistachios
PLANT SEEDS: Fall sow seeds or cold stratify

PLANT HEIGHT: 20 - 30'
PLANT SPACING: 20'

QUANTITY: 5 Seeds
OTHER: The Pistachio Tree is the source of the incredibly popular edible Pistachio Nut. Pistacia Vera is native to parts of Asia & the Middle East, but is now grown commercially in many parts of the world. The trees are slow growing, & typically only reach 20' at most in cultivation. This desert plant tolerates drought well, & enjoys hot sunny conditions.
The beautiful spring flower clusters turn to showy clusters of fruit. The hard shelled seeds of the fruit are pistachios, & they can be eaten raw or cooked. Add them to salads, in soups & stir fries, with fish or poultry dishes, countless deserts, or as an ice cream topping :)
From Wikipedia: The seed, commonly thought of as a nut, is a culinary nut, not a botanical nut. The fruit has a hard, creamish exterior shell. The seed has a mauvish skin and light green flesh, with a distinctive flavor. When the fruit ripens, the shell changes from green to an autumnal yellow/red, and abruptly splits part way open.
So, the nuts naturally open when they are mature, & this is when they should be harvested. The plants are dioecious, so both male & female plants are needed for pollination. The trees are very showy with beautiful red buds & flowers, as well as the many color changing fruit that has lovely shades. Wildlife will enjoy eating the pistachios too if you are kind enough to leave some for them :)
Go nuts! We also have Pecan, Hazelnut, & Walnut Tree seeds!
