OTHER: Coffee Arabica is an evergreen shrub or small tree. It is native to Ethopia, but is now cultivated worldwide (where climate allows). It is believed to be the first species of coffee to be cultivated, & Arabica is still considered to be the best today! Currently over 75% of the coffee produced worldwide is Coffea Arabica. Coffee production is a major source of income, especially for many developing countries where coffee is grown.
Coffee plants have tons of showy fragrant flowers that are scented like jasmine! These beautiful blooms are reason enough to grow them! The flowers turn to fruits that are called “a cherry”. The cherries start out green, changing to yellow & then finally red at maturity. The fruit matures at different times, so you will get to enjoy all of the wonderful colors together. Each fruit contains 2 seeds that we call coffee beans. The fruit is dried, & the beans are picked out & cleaned. Coffee plants can't tolerate any frost, but will lovingly allow you to prune them into any size or shape you desire.

Camellia Sinensis, commonly known as the Tea Plant, is the plant the drinking beverage tea is made from. Tea is made from the leaves of this shrub. Both black & green tea are made from this same plant – the difference is that black tea is fermented while green tea is not.
Thought to be originally native to China, the Tea Plant is cultivated commercially around the world today in tropical & sub-tropical locations. Tea Plants have been cultivated for at least 3,000 years, & tea is still one of the most consumed beverages worldwide today.
Tea leaves contain essential oils, antioxidants, vitamins & minerals, amino acids, enzymes, & caffeine. They have many traditional medicinal uses, as well as some more modern ones. Tea oil (different from tea tree oil) is also obtained by pressing the leaves is used for seasoning & cooking.
Tea Plants are considered to be a shrub to a small tree. They take to pruning well, & can be cut to desired shape & size. The plants are often trimmed to 6’ or less to make harvesting easier, but they can grow to be much taller. The evergreen leaves measure 2 – 6” long & are a bright shiny green. It is the younger light green leaves that are typically harvested for making drinking tea, & can be picked every week or two. This is wonderful, because you will always have a good fresh supply on hand, & these impressive plants can produce for over 100 years! The leaves are hand-picked, even in commercial operations, as not all of the leaves are harvested at once. While Tea Plants are only hardy to Zone 7, they can be grown in containers in cooler climates & brought indoors over the winter.
Tea Plants are also grown as an ornamental. They do have lovely foliage, & are worth growing for their flowers alone! The large showy blossoms measure 1 ½” across, & bloom in clusters of 2 - 4 creating a large display of beauty. The flowers are fragrant, & will attract bees & butterflies.

What's the difference between espresso and regular coffee?Espresso is a coffee beverage made from a specific brewing method. Technically all of our coffees can be made into delightful espressos - and many cafes all over the country do just that.Â
What's an espresso blend?To us, an espresso blend is a blend of beans that we feel tastes best as espresso, and has a wide 'success' window when extracting espresso. This means that you can use our espresso blends to pull great shots even if you don't have tens of thousands of dollars of espresso equipment.
I have an espresso machine, how do I get best results with your espresso?For our medium espresso (Bean's), we generally recommend shooting for a 2.5-3:1 ratio. This means if you make your puck 18g of coffee, you should shoot for between 45 and 54g of espresso in the cup. Tamp your puck using roughly 35 lbs of pressure, make sure the puck is not on a slant after tamping. Ideally the extraction should last between 25 and 35 seconds; if the pull takes too long, grind coarser, if it is too short, grind finer.Â
I ordered espresso ground coffee, and there isn't adequate crema- what's wrong with my coffee?Nothing is wrong! For all coffee, we think you'll get the best results by ordering whole bean. However, for espresso, this is nearly required. Due to the fineness of the espresso grind, and the aggressive pressure and heat of the extraction, espresso is especially sensitive to being pre-ground.Â
