Pepper Joe’s Habanero Pepper Seeds from $5.99
The Habanero chili dates back over 8,500 years old, when it originated from the Amazon and spread to Mexico. Spanish colonists disseminated this pepper to other areas of the world, becoming so popular that taxonomists at the time mistook the pepper's origin for China (hence where the term Capsicum Chinense came from). Habanero pepper plants average around 4 ft. tall, but they can grow much higher when planted directly into the soil in warmer climates. Often compared to the Scotch Bonnet pepper, they both have thin, waxy flesh that shines incredibly bright in the sunlight. These peppers mature from a mustard green to their signature orange color. The Habanero pepper is incredibly popular across Mexico and much of Central and South America, with the Yucatán Peninsula being the largest producer of these peppers in the world. These peppers boast a wonderfully sweet and fruity flavor, with some noting a subtle smoky taste, and contain heat levels as high as 350,000 SHUs! This was considered world-record heat in 1999, when the Habanero pepper was listed by the Guinness World Records as the world's hottest pepper. Habaneros are an integral part of Yucatecan food, accompanying most dishes, either as itself or purée or salsa. We also carry Habanero Snacks & Spices for you to enjoy or add to any food you like!
Pepper Joe’s Habanero Caribbean Red Pepper Seeds from $5.99
The Caribbean Red Habanero pepper is almost TWICE as hot as the regular habanero pepper, with a pungent fruity flavor that’s guaranteed to fill your taste buds – well, the remaining ones that didn’t singe off by the intense heat! These bushy plants grow up to 4 ft. tall and produce bountiful yields of these 2” long heirloom peppers. With so many pods on these branches, you may want to stake it for added support. Pods start green and turn to their signature red color with wrinkled skin and shape like a small lantern. Caribbean Red Habaneros can be picked when they’re green, but for a sweeter flavor, you’ll want to wait until they mature to red. We recommend wearing latex gloves and other protection when handling these peppers. With a heat level of 400,000 SHUs, these peppers are loaded with capsaicin which can cause irritation and pain when exposed to your eyes and even to your skin. When you get past this incredible heat, you’ll notice the citrusy and fruity flavors, with some saying they taste smoky undertones as well. Caribbean Red Habanero peppers are the perfect spicy addition to cooked foods and salsas but are even better when dried and ground into pepper flakes and chili pepper powder. Pepper Joe’s Habanero Mayan Red Pepper Seeds from $5.99
Looking for a pepper to make you cry...in a good way? The Habanero Mayan Red pepper, or also known as the Habanero Maya Red pepper, is an outstanding pepper to grow but will burn your tongue pretty quickly! The pepper plant will produce 3-4" long bright red, glossy, lantern-shaped peppers, and the peppers are longer and more slender than the typical Habanero. These peppers will ripen from green to bright red, and they can be ready to eat when they are green after 70 days or when they are red around 90 days. The red habanero peppers are similar in shape to the Paper Lantern pepper, but these are larger. The pepper plants have early maturity and produce well in cooler climates. So, if you live in a northern climate and love super-hot peppers, then you must try growing these peppers! Once you take a bite of the crunchy, juicy pepper, you’ll taste sweet, fruity tones with a less Habanero flavor. These peppers are great for making sauces and marinades, and are also good for frying and making chili powder. Try out other Habanero Pepper Seeds that we carry.
